Seriously, no one needs another hero there are so frickin' many already. What would be nice is the 8-month long Dervish update. It's ridiculous that they're talking like they've already gotten the damn thing out of the door and we haven't even gotten to see the preview that comes weeks before the actual update.

I'd like to see them caring about GW1 as a separate entity instead of trying to RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO up more things by adding alot of stuff on top of the game they screwed up JUST so they can bridge it to GW2, getting people to buy their next flawed product.

I kinda agree. Not with the post in itself, but on the idea. There are too many posts from Anet every months such as " we plan now to do this , this will be very cool " . Sure ok , but where are the previous cool things?? Is it going to end up like GW hearts of the north , i.e a way to introduce new costumes ??

Why is the dervish update taking so long? Complete profession overhaul? Extensive skill balancing? Nope, they're just trying to figure out which costumes to bundle with the update release...

The sad thing is... it wouldn't surprise me

Edit: If the skill updates coincides with a costume pack featuring Dhumm, Varesh etc costumes, I WILL punch a baby in the face.

Well I could care less about the Dervish update and gladly look forward to the 7 hero update a lot moreso than some 8 month long Dervish update. Everyone knows the Assassin/Dervish is the best dervish around anyways.

After reading the derv posts I remembered a quote and just thought I'd remind all of you:

"We have a few large balance projects underway right now. Because today's update is not directly related to any of these large balance projects, we want to clarify what's in the works:

* Guild battles. We are currently working with the Test Krewe on major possible changes to GvG. This is our top priority, but we expect it to require months to fully test, tune, and compare the changes we are exploring. Today's update is not related to any of the major changes we are testing, but it should address a few of the issues currently seen in GvG.

* Dervish balance. We are also working on changes to the Dervish, with both PvE and PvP in mind. This is our second priority, and it may or may not be ready at the same time as the GvG changes.

It definately wasn't ready at the same time as the GvG changes. I remember when I first read this. I thought this meant they were going to release both updates in relatively close proximity to each other and even thought/hoped they might both have been released at the same time. LOL I was wrong.

Have to admit I don't get what is taking so long with the 7hero update. What are they considering before making it? Balance? I don't see why, it's a given it will buff the player power. UI? that might be it if they want to give full control of all 7 heroes.

Ministry of Purity sounds like an interesting storyline... but yeah, sinse it's GW, that also hits at a lot of screen-staring during "cinematics".Am I the only one who thinks it's not the gameplay the main problem with GWB, but the fact the story is told through in-game chat. It'd add job, but audio tracks would make it so much easier to go throught.

Game Play > Lore. Always. Lore is only ever fleshed out after mechanics. Look at the Guardian class in GW2. It's replacing the Monk and lore is only an afterthought as to why this has happened, not the other way around. It wasn't as if a writer for GW2 said, "Let's change the Monk because the gods have taken a step back." Quite the opposite. That was said after the game designers made the Guardian and then needed a lore reason to explain it. never sacrifice the fun that can be had in a game because it would get in the way of lore. Always sacrifice lore to make a game more fun. Afterall, playing the game is what it's all about. It's not like a book or movie. You interract with games and the focal point should always be the game play.

For some reason I'm going to bet that it'll be an assassin, and it'll be MIKU! >=/

Well, that is based on how much we know of ANET's consistency :P

Wait....how is this news? It's one line.

Does one line count as news now? Oh, that's just sad.

The adventure in a game is content, skill updates are just numbers and functionality, nothing new is added. Without storyline and lore, you have a bunch of random people killing each other (see: any console FPS game).

GW: Beyond is a separate entity. If they delivered only skill updates and took forever to roll out new stuff to do, we'd repeat the same content we've beaten a dozen times.

To say again, I think skill updates are really needed, but if I had a choice of what I want more, I want to play a new adventure. My cool new skill functionality will be pretty boring when I have nothing new to do.

I understand there is a strong PvP sentiment that skill balancing is their entire experience. While I sympathize with that, asking that everything be shut down until everything is up to snuff would take forever. After the dervish, the ele, ranger and paragon will be waiting, and I for one don't intend to wait 2 years before I get new quests, costumes and other enjoyables.

John Stumme said on his wiki page that the dervish update will be the last of the major overhauls they will be doing for a long time (considering how long the dervish update took, if ArenaNet uses the words a long time it must mean eternity). Whether this means we will only get updates similar to the GvG ones in December from now on or they just won't be reworking class weapons and mechanics from scratch (either way it's bad news for rangers, eles and paragons in PvE).

John Stumme said they are doing more than just increasing the cap to 7/11 (Urgoz and Deep if that happens). There will be more substantial updates to the hero update beyond simply allowing more heroes. We know they plan to at least significantly increase the viability and attractiveness of melee heroes, but the impression we have gotten is that the update will bring something a little more than that, specifically what it is we don't know yet.

Ministry of Purity does sound interesting but seeing as it deals with the tengu and racism I'm not looking forward to Nazi Germany allusions. I don't mind the bureaucracy story of Cantha but ideologies dealing with purity and racism turn me right off. I also would prefer cut scenes, even if they aren't big moving polished experiences like the old ones. The active dialogue in the middle of gameplay is distracting and often obscures my view in the middle of combat. I would rather a static view of where I'm supposed to be looking and the option to skip as opposed to the way WiK and HotN were done.

Because Nazi Germany is the only place racism and genocide ever happened, and is not an ongoing issue today at all.

It is funny too because I always hear so much whining from the GvG crowd which is immensely smaller than the PvE crowd and yet I didn't see any praise for ANet from the GvG crowd when this was announced. I guess it is true that bots don't read forums.

What do you expect us to be praising?

GvGers should praise Anet for adding gvg to this list of things they say they'll do, then never get around to it?

I'm sorry, unlike yourself and Anet, when I say I'll do something I don't wait 8 months to do it. It is important because Anet said they'll do it. If it wasn't important, it wouldn't be on the list.

Ffs, they made factions/nf in nearly as much time as the Dervish update took. As said before, it really doesn't matter how good the update is at this point, its just another point where Anet's word should be taken with a grain of salt. And yes, balance of my favorite class is important, thanks.

...What? Myself? Pretentious much? If I were Anet, I wouldn't have said I would update dervs. Mostly because I wouldn't have cooked up such a piss-poor class.

What makes you believe they've not worked on it on/off for the entire time? You don't know the amount of work on their plates or what their day to day is, none of us do.
